Every person has the right to a safe workplace
MODERN SLAVERY STATEMENT
We are strongly against modern slavery and believe that everyone has the right to work in a safe, fair, and respectful environment. We do not tolerate any form of forced labour, human trafficking, exploitation, or unfair treatment within our business or supply chain. We are committed to working with our employees, suppliers, and partners to identify and prevent the risks of modern slavery and to ensure that ethical working practices are maintained. We expect everyone we work with to share these values and comply with all modern slavery laws and regulations.
WHAT IS MODERN SLAVERY?
Modern slavery is an issue facing millions of people around the world. According to Anti-Slavery people can become enslaved making our clothes, serving our food, picking our crops, working in factories, or working in houses as cooks, cleaners or nannies. Victims of modern slavery might face violence or threats, be forced into inescapable debt, or have their passport taken away and face being threatened with deportation.
OUR ANTI-SLAVERY COMMITMENT
We are committed to upholding the principles of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the Ethical Base Code Ethical Training Initiative and the UN International Bill Of Human Rights. We will work with our employees, suppliers and partners to identify and prevent risks of modern slavery within our business or supply chain and ensure every person is safe from harm, treated fairly.
THE ART FILE MODERN SLAVERY STATEMENT
This statement is made pursuant to section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps that J R M International Ltd (T/A The Art File) has taken, and continues to take, to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking is not taking place within our business or supply chains.
1. Our Business
The Art File is an independent award-winning publisher based in the UK. We employ approximately 30 staff and work with a network of trusted suppliers, including manufacturers in the UK and Asia. Our supply chain includes the sourcing of raw materials, printing services, product assembly and distribution.
2. Our Commitment
We are fully committed to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chain. We recognise our responsibility to respect human rights and to take steps to identify, prevent, and mitigate any risks of modern slavery. We expect the same commitment from all our suppliers, partners, and contractors.
3. Our Supply Chain
Our supply chain includes:
- UK-based manufacturers and service providers
- Overseas manufacturing partners, primarily located in Asia
- Distributors, logistics partners, and material suppliers
We understand that the risk of modern slavery is potentially higher in some regions and sectors, particularly in low-wage economies. As such, we take a risk-based approach to supply chain management.
4. Due Diligence and Risk Assessment
We carry out risk assessments to evaluate the potential for modern slavery within our supply chains. This includes:
- Reviewing countries of origin for potential risk factors
- Understanding the labour practices of our direct suppliers
- Requiring our suppliers to confirm their compliance with relevant labour laws and international standards
We maintain direct relationships with many of our suppliers, enabling us to regularly review their working practices. Where we work through agents or intermediaries, we require transparency and clear lines of responsibility.
5. Supplier Expectations and Policies
All suppliers are expected to:
- Comply with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 or equivalent local legislation
- Adhere to our Supplier Code of Conduct
- Provide evidence of their own efforts to combat modern slavery, including policies, audit results, or certifications (e.g., SEDEX, SA8000)
Where concerns arise, we investigate promptly and work with the supplier to remedy the situation. Persistent failure to meet our standards may result in the termination of the business relationship.
6. Training and Awareness
We are committed to raising awareness among our staff, especially those in procurement, supply chain management, and production. Our training includes:
- Understanding modern slavery and how to identify potential risks
- How to report concerns or suspicions
- Company policies on ethical sourcing and supplier engagement
We will continue to build awareness across the business and embed responsible practices into our operations.
7. Continuous Improvement
We are committed to continuously improving our practices to combat modern slavery. In the coming year, we aim to:
- Strengthen supplier auditing procedures
- Enhance our internal training and policies
- Increase transparency and engagement with key suppliers in higher-risk regions
8. Governance
This statement has been approved by the board of directors and will be reviewed annually. It is published on our company website and shared with relevant stakeholders.
