Spring Fair Review 2020
As the excitement of Spring Fair 2020 settled, we sat down to reflect on a what was a record-breaking trade show for The Art File. We want to share some of our highlights of the show with you, our amazing customers.
Firstly, our new location on the threshold between Halls 2 and 3 gave us the opportunity to get creative and design something new for our stand. We seized this opportunity to showcase our brand new product launches; in particular, it acted as a perfect launch pad for our Christmas 2020 collection. A big thank you goes out to everyone who gave us kind words of praise regarding our new stand and its design. Sales & Marketing Manager James Mace had this to say about the new stand and customers’ reactions to it: ‘The new stand was amazing - I absolutely loved it. The new colours, layout, and maximization of space was great. We certainly gained some new accounts purely down to the wow-factor of the stand. I can’t wait to continue using this stand at trade shows throughout the rest of this year and into 2021.’
It’s safe to say The Art File’s new 2020 Christmas collection, which was launched for the first time at Spring Fair, went down phenomenally well with everyone who visited our stand. Most notably, customers loved our newly refurbished Luxury Boxes and Trio Boxes that are now completely plastic free and 100% recyclable. We have also redesigned the packaging of our Form 3D Pop-Up Card Boxes, which are also fully recyclable and use 70% recycled plastic. Our Christmas singles, unless otherwise stated (and only for good reason), are all offered unwrapped. Not only does this help to reduce the company’s single-use plastic, it also makes the luxurious finishes of the cards, such as embossing and foiling, really stand out when on display. We have been working on our environmental policy for some time now and deem it a vital part of who we are. We were therefore pleased to find that it was also an important topic to all of our customers, and were happy to put our customers at ease by going through all the steps we’ve taken to ensure we’re at the top of the game when it comes to sustainability in the industry.
Our Luxury Boxes were well received not only for their plastic-free packaging, but also for their exquisite design. We launched nine brand new Luxury Box designs at the stand, as well as carrying over last year’s award-winners from the 2019 Christmas campaign. Another award-winning product, our Trio Box Cards, are great value for money and customers old and new at Spring Fair continued to love our format of 12 cards, 4 each of three separate designs. As well as for award-winning product, retailers know The Art File for the huge variety in products and design that we offer, and customers were not disappointed at Spring Fair. Our Single Christmas cards were widely praised, with some gorgeous contemporary new designs to bring your Christmas display into 2020. We also launched range extensions to our customer favourites including Sara Miller London, and a variety of hilarious Christmas cards, such as our Squeeze The Day range. Single Christmas cards have grown in popularity, and so our collection continues to grow alongside demand. Our gift wrap collections were extremely well received this year, as we added five brand new designs, all very different and complete with matching tissue paper, gift tags, and gift bags. From frosty blues and silvers in Sapphire & Snow, to bold reds and beautifully hand-drawn elements in Robins, the gift packaging collection was beautifully displayed in full on the stand. And last but by no means least, our charity cards were hugely popular again this year. We have created brand new designs to update the ever popular charity pack stands that we offer to display your charity cards in store.
Spring Fair has always been dubbed the ‘International Show of the Year’, and this year was no exception. The Art File are delighted to report a positive show from an export perspective, with new and existing relationships growing successfully across the board. Paul Fields, Export Consultant for The Art File had this to say about how the export market has reacted to our new Everyday and Christmas releases: ‘Although footfall was noticeably lower than previous years and we’d just officially left the EU, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of overseas visitors to Spring Fair 2020. Having such strong new releases displayed enticingly on our new stand drew in many new enquirers from around the globe including the UAE, Norway, Serbia, Iceland, Malta, Egypt, Australia, and Russia. This gave confidence to our existing partners and has set us up for what I know will be a very strong year of growth. Watch this space!’
The Art File also had a fantastic show with regards to our Everyday products. We launched our 2020 Everyday ranges in January, but they continued to impress at Spring Fair. Customers loved the cranes, koi, and cherry blossom designs that characterise Sakura Heights, our forward-thinking collection inspired by Japanism, a growing trend for this year. The real showstopper of Spring Fair, though, was our Vertigo collection; proudly on show at the front of our stand, it’s safe to say everyone who visited the stand was drawn to it. The card range designed for men is an impressive, eye-teasing collection of birthday and occasion cards and is already a huge seller for us this year. Our Christmas gift wrapping was not the only packaging collection to cause a stir at Spring Fair; our Spring & Summer gift wrapping collection also did tremendously well. Customers loved the variety, the bright colours and designs that really make a statement, and of course the fantastic quality and luxurious feel of the products. As expected, everyone loved our continuing collaboration with Sara Miller London on her bright and beautiful Everyday cards, as well as the brand new range of Sara Miller age cards. Customers were also pleased to see we are expanding our external artist collaborations with brand new collections such as Ally Gore’s Veryan and Kate Heiss’ Nature Trail.
The Art File’s Managing Director, Ged Mace, wanted to take this opportunity to have the final word: ‘On behalf of the entire team at The Art File I’d like to thank all our customers who visited us on our stand during Spring Fair and helped make it a record show for us. We are fortunate to work with the most forward thinking, enthusiastic and dedicated retailers across the UK. We are also privileged to be represented by some remarkable overseas companies who have helped establish The Art File brand in over 40 countries across the globe. Greeting cards remain the nations favourite way of telling someone we care and as an industry, I believe 2020 will be a year where we can take greeting card giving to new heights. Thank you once again for your continued support of The Art File.’
